A small yet fascinating section of the FAR collection is composed by twenty panels of Kuba textiles. These pieces, dated from the end of the nineteenth century to the twentieth century, belong to the Kuba culture which inhabited Zaire, now known as Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Kuba textiles are uniquely decorated and complexly produced. The cloths are woven with raffia and are hand embroidered with the application of pile; among these are the cut-pile embroidered cloths, known as ‘Kuba Velours’.
